I scream, you scream, we're all screaming for fresh ice cream this month, now that Bobtail Soda Fountain has opened its doors to those looking for more than just the average ice cream shop. Located on the border of trendy Lincoln Park and eclectic Lakeview (2951 N. Broadway at the corner of Broadway and Wellington), co-founders Jeff Wilcoxon and Christopher Hill know that you can’t go wrong with tradition, style and great homemade taste.

Promising to provide the premier soda fountain experience, Bobtail will combine the charm, nostalgia, and warmth of a classic hometown ice cream parlor with the sophistication, energy and quality of a contemporary urban café.

"Jeff and I are strong believers in local tradition, homemade quality, and fair value. The inspiration for this store is that small town parlor with a friendly face that so many of us knew as kids. Our ice cream is the best I’ve ever tasted, our coffee and tea are of the highest quality, and our trademark Belgian waffles are unlike anything available." says co-founder Christopher Hill.

A grand opening weekend complete with tastings, free cones, giveaways and a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held Saturday and Sunday, June 5 - 6 at 2:00 pm.

Derived from the nickname of the handle on an old-fashioned soda fountain, Bobtail will produce each homemade batch in the on-site, glass-enclosed ice cream "factory". Customers will be able to watch as more than 20 classic, seasonal and locally inspired ice cream flavors, such as Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip and Signature Sunset‘ (merlot ice cream with pieces of dark chocolate), are created right before their eyes. The menu also features a low-carb vanilla, fat-free sorbets, and low-fat frozen yogurt for those seeking a healthier indulgence.

Beyond the factory, the action continues as soda jerks prepare fresh sundaes, classic sodas, floats, and innovative creations like the Cream Espress (a thick vanilla milkshake topped off with a double shot of espresso). Customers can experience the action from the counter seats at the end of the production line and a marble-top bar overlooking the factory.

Unlike most ice cream shops, when the inevitable Chicago winter rolls around, Bobtail doesn’t miss a step, since each day begins at 6:00 am with a freshly baked batch of sweet Belgian waffles and muffins, Lavazza™ coffees and espressos, organic teas by Numi™, and fruit juices. Other year-round warm specialties include homemade hot chocolates and hot-fudge fondue.

Bobtail’s super-premium ice cream is made from the best ingredients available and served in the classic hard-pack style. The recipes were carefully crafted, through research and taste tests, to match the creaminess of other high-end ice creams but offer reduced butterfat content and calories so the subtleties of each flavor shine through.

The shop’s interior and exterior design was provided by The Gettys Group, a premier Chicago-based interior design and architecture company that has won national recognition for many of its hospitality and restaurant design projects. Utilizing a mix of both traditional and contemporary design elements, they developed a distinctive interior design that attempts to reflect the diverse Lakeview marketplace.

Contemporary accents include a flat-screen television and mosaic tile doorstep, while a classic stainless steel fountain, white marble countertops and a collection of photographs and collectibles give an authentic feel of days gone by. An outdoor patio with lantern lighting and music provides a perfect setting to enjoy the entire experience on a warm summer evening.

The premier soda fountain will offer corporate and private catering services starting this summer. For special occasions, made-to-order cakes are available or you can create a completely personalized, 20-quart batch of ice cream combining any of the ingredients on the core menu.

The Bobtail Soda Fountain concept was initially developed by Jeff Wilcoxon and Christopher Hill through the Edward L. Kaplan New Venture Challenge, an annual business plan competition at the University of Chicago, Graduate School of Business (GSB). Inspiration came from the Wilcoxon’s family-owned Johnson’s Real Ice Cream in Bexley, Ohio and 50-years of small town ice cream tradition. John Rutledge, a fellow GSB alumnus, successful Chicago-based hospitality/real estate entrepreneur and private equity investor, and co-founder and president of The Oxford Capital Group began collaborating with Jeff and Chris in the spring of 2003. He signed on as lead investor, strategic advisor, and CEO of the new company.

"Chris and I thought it would be great if we could take this plan and continue the tradition of my family’s ice cream shop," says co-founder Jeff Wilcoxon. "I grew up watching my father and grandfather serve the best ice cream in town. We’ve taken their proven formulas and refined them into our own recipes. We are ready to deliver a unique soda fountain experience to Chicago. It’s been fun to watch people rate our ice cream ahead of all the prominent brands during taste tests. You really have to taste it to believe it."

Mr. Rutledge is a member of the advisory board of the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship at the Chicago GSB. Building on this connection to the University of Chicago, and its founders’ commitment to providing educational opportunities universally, Bobtail will donate a percentage of its annual revenue to both local and national educational initiatives. Among the first beneficiaries will be Chicago’s Inner City Teaching Corps, whose honorary chair is Mayor Richard M. Daley.

Wellness and Healthy Living Weigh in at Manzanillo’s Top Resort

MANZANILLO, Mexico (PRWEB) July 16, 2005

Manzanillo’s top all-inclusive resort, Karmina Palace, helps guests stay in swimsuit-perfect shape with an in-house personal trainer at the fully-equipped fitness center.

The addition of a full-time staff member who is a qualified instructor means guests receive professional coaching and routine suggestions they can take back home with them and integrate into their regular gym schedules.

“With today’s emphasis on healthy living and balanced lifestyle, it makes sense for a luxury resort to offer guests the services of a personal coach,” says General Manager Marcos Casillas. “People are so health-conscious these days that you’ll often see them up at dawn and on the treadmill even though they’re on holiday. Our gym trainer ensures they get the most out of their workout and gain positive feedback they can continue to implement after their vacation is over.”

Karmina Palace’s fitness center recently extended hours of operation from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. during the week, and from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the weekends. It features modern, well-serviced Cybex stationary bicycles, treadmills, a stair climber and a wide range of workout equipment and free weights and boasts separate men’s and women’s change rooms with showers and steam rooms for after workout muscle relief. A full-service Spa offers massages and body treatments to melt away the aches (additional fees apply).

Hot Summer Drinks & Diet-Friendly Meal Options

Karmina Palace takes all-inclusive to new levels with an exciting summer drink menu of icy fresh fruit margaritas, and new sour martinis. And just because you’re on vacation doesn’t mean the diet goes south thanks to Karmina’s wide array of healthy meal options.

Indulge in traditional lime margaritas, her sugary cousins, the strawberry or mango daiquiri, or Karmina's signature drink, the watermelon margarita. The new drinks menu includes sour apple martinis and tropical fruit concoctions including the chamoyada, a spicy-tart thirst quencher of mango and chamoy fruit.

Vacation time is for relaxation, not worrying about counting calories. At Karmina, guests stick to their diets and feast guilt-free with healthy dishes available at the three restaurants. The poolside Grill is an excellent place to find a huge selection of buffet-style options, including a salad bar with plenty of fixings (oil and vinegar dressing too), fresh fruit, grilled fish fillets and steamed vegetables.

Evening a la carte restaurants Carioca and La Trattoria have expansive menus with lite options such as fish and seafood, as well as salads. Even the Bugambilias breakfast buffet features smoothies, yogurt, granola, tropical fruit bar, and an egg station where guests request eggs cooked any way they like them, including egg white-only omelets.

About Karmina Palace

The 324-suite Karmina Palace Resort has polished the concept of the all-inclusive vacation by offering special amenities like wireless internet access in a spectacular Mayan kingdom amid the blue waters and jungles of the Pacific Coast in Manzanillo, Mexico. Lush gardens with tropical flowers, banana trees and coconut palms surround eight interconnected lagoon-style pools. Nightly entertainment, 24-hour room service, unlimited food and drink & a full-service spa make Karmina Palace the epitome of grand tourism.

Can One Eat Chinese Food When on a Low Carb Diet?

One of the most popular questions asked by most Chinese food lovers is whether or not they can eat Chinese food when on a low carbohydrate diet. Well, the answer to this question is simple: You can definitely have Chinese food as a part of your low-carb diet, but you need to a bit more selective in choosing the type of Chinese food that would best suit your interests. As a matter of fact, a low carb diet does not take into account the number of calories present in a particular food group. It just restricts the content of carbohydrates in your meal so as to help you lose weight faster, stabilize your metabolism, and lower your blood sugar level.

Many experts of the Oriental cuisine believe that low carb Chinese food does not exist as almost all the popular Chinese dishes contain starch and sugar. For instance, popular Chinese foods, such as buns with a spicy, aromatic soup and reviving stews, noodles served with thick sauces, and wontons, all are rich in carbohydrates and certainly cannot be a part of a strict carb diet. But, contrary to this popular belief, there exists an innumerable variety of low carb Chinese delicacies.

Owing to different styles of cooking in different regions, the amount of carbohydrates contained in a particular dish largely depends on the restaurant where you are having it. The same dish that contains a lot of carbohydrates in one restaurant can be a low carb food in another. So, if you are on a strict carb diet and looking for Chinese food, it is advisable to compare more than two restaurants for sugar and starch level in food.

Nonetheless, following are certain Chinese foods that you should completely refrain from when on a diet:

1) Egg rolls
2) Wontons
3) Steamed or fried rice
4) Noodles
5) Breaded meats
6) Plum and orange-based sauces
7) Sweet and spicy sauces. Spicy sauces usually contain a lot of sugar for balancing taste and should be therefore avoided.

Following are some Chinese dishes that you can surely have as a part of your low-carb diet:

1) steamed meats
2) thin vegetable soups
3) Tofu
4) Black bean sauces
5) Moo Goo Gai sauces
6) Watery sauces like the one used in Schezuan prawns.
7) Any sweet sauce cooked without using cornstarch

Thus, there are a number of low carb Chinese foods that you can have in your favorite Chinese food restaurant when on a strict low carb diet.

Use the unique Chinese Food Locator to find some of the best Chinese Restaurants in your city.

The Right Way To Follow A Low Carb Diet Weight Loss Program

3025653824 015cfe8946 m The Right Way To Follow A Low Carb Diet Weight Loss Program
by wu_135

You will find there's a substantial underground buzz to the theme of low carb diet plans these days. At present it's still underground because of the fact that it flies in the face of "conventional" wisdom about fat, cholesterol, coronary disease, putting on weight, weight reduction and also diabetes. So as to take hold of low carbohydrate weight loss programs you should abandon all you assume you understand about balanced and healthy diet. So, the normal zeitgeist regarding balanced eating states that fat isn't good, in particular saturated fats, so you must fill up on lots of fruit and veg (5 per day) and whole grain products. This is typically considered to be the obvious way to eat to lose excess fat and safeguard your heart.

Supporters of low-carb weight loss programs claim that there is actually little or no proof to support the theory that dietary fat leads to us to become fat and harms the heart. Low carbers are saying that it's carbs and that is changed into body fat principally from the action of the hormone insulin. Although this is counter-intuitive in that it's so easy and simple to consider that dietary fat produces body fat, it can appear to be the case. So low-carb weight loss plans are not only reduced in carbohydrate, but moderate in protein and moderately high in fat. The low carb dieter's body changes from regarding glucose as its principal source of fuel, to using fat for the purposes of energy. The lower consumption of carbs ensures that very little insulin is generated by the pancreas, and therefore insulin cannot push blood glucose into the fat cells for storage as fat.

Insulin is of course linked with diabetes, and diabetes type 2 (adult onset) is linked to fat around your belly. It is currently believed that the diabetic doesn't bring his or her illness on herself simply by unnecessary eating and getting fat, but that fat around your belly and diabetes are a part of the same affliction. Low carbohydrate diets are wonderful for curbing diabetes as well as for blocking it, because it seems that the beta cells within the pancreas (the insulin suppliers) are finite in the potential diabetic. By continuing to keep carbs and sugars small, the beta cells may avoid getting burned out and depleted by the constant demand within the body for insulin.

Even though locarb diet programs are very important in the majority of individuals minds as a fat reduction tool, serious low carbers view it as a long-term lifestyle and a method of eating for life. Some considerable fat loss can be carried out, quite stunning in many cases, yet ultimately low carb is a life-long path and fat burning may have its pros and cons within that journey. Sometimes the diet plan has to be modified if further weight loss is to be reached or held. One thing is for certain, you will not maintain your weight or blood sugars firm by yo-yo-ing from low carb diets to a high carb diet. If you just think you could get back to eating cake and bread after having shed lots of weight by low-carbing, it will eventually pile back on again rapidly.

Low carb diet plans are a commitment and a very daunting one for lots of people, who love their bread, rice, pasta, cake, potatoes, and so forth. Many people who do manage to embrace locarb programs realize that just like alcoholics they can certainly not go back to their old ways. They really feel so much better when separated from the mood and energy swings engendered by the see-sawing of high and low blood sugars, it is of great benefit. Your appetite and cravings are reduced.

Also, a standard reaction from people not really knowledgeable (like Doctors) is "Whooaa! Your cholesterol must be through the roof!" It's not easy in words of just one syllable to spell out that total cholesterol readings are meaningless, and that HDL and trigylceride readings will be the authentic standard of good heart health. These kinds of readings tend to be fantastic in those adhering to locarb meal plans, confounding their critics.

Low carb diets came to popularity a number of years ago with the Atkins Diet plan. Those opposed to to his radical concepts were able to discredit his research and convinced most people this appeared to be merely yet another harmful fad diet, just like the cabbage soup diet something like that. Also low carbohydrate weight loss programs had been branded high protein, (whilst in truth they must be moderate in protein) and protein was reported as triggering kidney damage. Genuinely there is no evidence of protein brings about kidney problems, and anyway - low carbohydrate eating plans are much more groundbreaking than this, in that they're high in fat, which includes saturated fat. Devoid of the existence of excess carbohydrate, pure fats like butter, coconut oil, lard and olive oil can be safe, and they also increase feelings of satiety (fullness) allowing reduced carb weight loss plans to be a long-term lifestyle choice since the person doesn't feel half starved constantly!

I was sick for a few days right after I started my diet. I took a "break" those few days, and resumed my diet right after I was feeling better. I've lost 4 pounds since my last video. 'Flat Out' is the brand of the low carb wrap that I've been using. You can purchase them at Wal-Mart near the Deli aisle. They are NOT in the bread aisle... at least not at my local store.
