It's summer and for all the music lovers this also means the season of the world's most famous festivals. There are people who wait all year to take some days off in June, July or August and go to see their favorite bands playing live. The lucky ones manage to go to one than more festival; the others have a wide range of events to choose from. All of the world's biggest festivals are at a very high level when it comes to organizational matters and safety. But the fact that the festival's organizers are well prepared doesn't mean we don't have to prepare ourselves. Here are some tips that will help you spend unforgettable time at a music festival and prevent you from disappointments.

Prepare for the weather. We all know that summer can surprise us with all kinds of things from extremely hot air to freezing hail. I don't know why, but it especially happens during big events. As far as it doesn't matter that much when we stay somewhere inside it has a huge impact on us when we are doomed to stay a couple of days camping out. Don't let the weather spoil your fun, prepare for it. In case of rain gumboots, rain coat and an umbrella are all a must. But if the weather is hot, it is also good to be prepared. Make sure your tent protects you from the sun. If not, you can buy a special thermal blanket that you can cover the tent with - it will keep the warmth inside for the night, but won't let the sunbeams come through during the day. Once your little 'festival home' is ready, think about protecting yourself from the sun. A sunscreen is a must, as well as something decent to cover your head.

Take care of your money. I am not talking about protecting it from thieves that can appear even at the safest festival - I bet everyone is wise enough not to leave their wallet in a tent. I am talking about the fact that when we are having fun, we don't pay attention to what we spend the money on. Dining out, alcohol drinks, souvenirs - these are the traps that wait for us at all the big events we take part in. It is worth to be wise and prevent ourselves from spending too much, by bringing our own food and drinks for example. I can tell you that you really won't care that much what you eat during the festival - you will have more important things to think about. So to stop yourself from buying expensive and unhealthy fast food like hot dogs or kebabs from the festival area, bring yourself some ready food like low carb bread sandwiches, fresh fruit and salads. Believe me, light food will do you good, especially if you are planning to party and drink some alcohol.

Pay attention to the clothes you take. Big music festivals like Coachella or Lollapalooza are known as fashion shows and trendsetting events. The atmosphere is so special that most of the people there can't resist the feeling of expressing themselves by what they wear creating a spectacular mixture of various styles full of inspiring ideas. It is very wise to think about the possible weather conditions when we choose our clothes for these couple of days, but we should also definitely think about some kind of a festival look for ourselves. I am not talking about dressing up, but about giving ourselves a chance to look different for once, to wear outfits we wouldn't dare to wear at work or on the streets of our hometown. This is the time when we can feel free and be whoever we want!

You just don?t understand where that extra weight came from. The truth is, if you take in even one more calorie daily than your body burns, you won?t lose weight. An extra 100 calories a day (that your body doesn't burn) adds up to one pound gained per month or 12 pounds per year. Record your food and liquid calories in a food journal. Creating caloric awareness leads to steady weight loss.

5. I?m buying it for my kids. How many times have you purchased empty calorie foods and told yourself you were buying it for your kids? While you strolled down the cookie aisle, you promised yourself, this time would be different. This time you would not eat Junior's lunchbox cookies. Don?t let your subconscious fool you. Don?t believe the unhealthy food is only for your kids. That?s a lie. You want it for yourself. Don?t buy it or you?ll eat it.

6. Everyone gains weight as they get older. Many people falsely believe they?re doomed to gain weight as they get older. Believing that lie assures you will gain weight with each passing year. Mushroom Stuffed Pork Chops (Less than 20 grams of carbs)

2 teaspoons butter

4 slices low carb day-old wheat or multigrain bread, torn into tiny pieces

2 tablespoons olive oil, divided

1/4 cup finely chopped celery

1/4 cup finely chopped shallots

1/4 cup finely chopped green apple

2 cups finely chopped cremini mushrooms

1/4 cup beef broth

1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves

4 (5-ounce each) thick boneless, center-cut pork chops

Salt to taste

Black pepper to taste

1/2 cup Walden Farms No Carbs apricot spread

Juice of lime (about 1 1/2 tablespoons)

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. In large oven-proof skillet, melt butter over medium-high heat. Add bread and cook, stirring often, until crisp and fragrant. Transfer to large bowl and set aside. In same skillet, heat 1 tablespoon olive oil over medium-high heat and add celery, shallots and green apple. Cook, stirring often, until soft, about four minutes. Add mushrooms and cook, stirring often, until tender, about three minutes. Stir in beef broth, apple cider vinegar, and thyme. Cook, stirring, for two minutes to slightly reduce liquid. Transfer mushroom mixture to bowl with bread crumbs and toss ingredients until liquid is absorbed. Set aside.

2. To make pocket in pork chops, place chops on cutting board. Insert blade of sharp knife into side of each chop and slide knife parallel to cutting board to make an opening, do not cut all way through chop. Season inside and outside of each chop with salt and pepper. Generously stuff each chop with mushroom mixture ? reserve leftover mushroom mixture. In large oven-proof skillet, heat 1 tablespoon olive oil over medium-high heat. Add chops and cook for three minutes each side to brown. Add any leftover mushroom mixture and place skillet in oven on middle rack. Roast for seven to eight minutes or until pork is just cooked through. Remove from oven and tent with foil for five minutes.

3. In small microwave-safe bowl stir apricot preserves or orange marmalade with lime juice. Microwave on high for 20 seconds or until warm enough to pour. To serve, transfer chops and any stuffing in skillet to serving platter or individual dinner plates and drizzle with warm fruit sauce.

Serves 4. Per serving: 18.8g carbs, 4.1g fiber, 30g protein, 23g fat, 80mg cholesterol, 431mg sodium, 389 calories

Believing thin people are lucky (but you aren't) prevents you from pursuing your fitness goal. You must work diligently at your fitness. 3. I can't lose weight. How many times have you told yourself that you can't lose weight? Would you say ten times (a day), a hundred times (a week), a thousand times (a year), maybe more? The prime reason you haven't been successful at permanent weight loss is you believe you can't be. Eliminate "can't" from your vocabulary. Instead say, "I can lose weight." Believing emphatically you can lose weight is the mindset you need to succeed.

4. But I never overeat. You may THINK you don't eat that much. You rarely eat dessert. You never drink soda. You always get your dressing on the side. You just don't understand where that extra weight came from. The truth is, if you take in even one more calorie daily than your body burns, you won't lose weight. An extra 100 calories a day (that your body doesn't burn) adds up to one pound gained per month or 12 pounds per year. Record your food and liquid calories in a food journal. Creating caloric awareness leads to steady weight loss.

5. I'm buying it for my kids. How many times have you purchased empty calorie foods and told yourself you were buying it for your kids? While you strolled down the cookie aisle, you promised yourself, this time would be different. This time you would not eat Junior's lunchbox cookies. Don't let your subconscious fool you. Don't believe the unhealthy food is only for your kids. That's a lie. You want it for yourself. Don't buy it or you'll eat it.

6. Everyone gains weight as they get older. Many people falsely believe they're doomed to gain weight as they get older. Believing that lie assures you will gain weight with each passing year. In life, you get exactly what you expect you'll get. The truth is, you can stay fit your entire life! Certainly, many people do gain weight with age simply because they overeat and don't exercise. When you believe weight gain is an inevitable consequence of aging, you just let it happen. Immediately change your belief to, "I will get in better shape with each passing year."

7. You'll never look the same after having kids. Believing you're doomed after having kids is "just another lie." Having a baby does not cause you to stay overweight forever. 8. Carbohydrates make you fat. Hearing you should "cut carbs" is vague and useless advice. Quality carbohydrates like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains foods are an essential part of a healthy diet. Your body needs carbohydrates to function properly. Low-Carb Losing Steam? Consumers Say “No Way!”

FALLS CHURCH, VA (PRWEB) May 26, 2004 - With recent headlines declaring low-

carb is losing steam, the Carbohydrate Awareness Council decided to review current statistics to provide insight to the industry and consumers. Their findings? Scientific evidence continues to emerge supporting the efficacy of low-carb diets for weight-loss and consumers continue to feel confident that a low-carb diet can and will help them lose weight.

While some niche retailers are experiencing declines in sales, and some manufacturers are seeing a dip in demand, the consumer remains confident in the low-carb diet and controlled-carb lifestyle.

"A number of things may explain the recent industry pinch," said Regina Schumann, the COO of the Carbohydrate Awareness Council (CAC), "The number of manufacturer's offering foods touted as "low-carb" has increased and major retailers are now dedicating shelf-space to more low-carb products. This is capturing sales that once went to the niche retailers. In addition, consumers are simply getting very savvy that some products are not necessarily appropriate for the weight-loss phases of the low-carb diets."

"We spent considerable time with those attending our industry summit in January," said Dr. Gil Wilshire, MD, President and CSO of the council, "explaining how some of the 'net carb' label claims were unsupported by the science. We also felt it was important to educate consumers about the necessity for a long-term, controlled-carb approach to maintain fat losses once weight loss goals were achieved. Our recommendation at the time was, and remains, to allocate significant marketing efforts toward those consumers who will be following a controlled-carb approach for the long term."

He also added that, "All successful products rely on the time-proven model of brand loyalty and repeat business. Internet chat boards are now a fact of life. Bad buzz about a "low carb" product -- either because it is mis-labeled or a consumer has had a bad experience of one kind or another -- can kill sales rapidly. This ill-will can also spill over to other products of the same brand, regardless of their individual merits."

"Like the Perfect Storm, a number of different forces have collided in recent months," said Bob Cave, CEO of the CAC, "in addition to the other issues mentioned, probably one of the biggest we need to factor in, is that consumers are communicating with each other about their experiences with weight-loss, or lack thereof in ways unimagined ten years ago. They're online posting and chatting and asking each other for help."

With hundreds of online communities and message boards dedicated to low-carb diets, consumers have the ability to quickly communicate with and support each other in their weight-loss efforts. Success stories number in the tens of thousands, are readily available to those just starting a low-carb diet, and often have a common theme: Do not try to re-create your former eating habits as you are starting a low-carb diet. Read labels carefully and eat mostly whole foods as you are losing weight. Eat lots of non-starchy vegetables. Learn healthy eating habits for the long-term and include exercise in your daily routine where ever possible.

The webmaster of one such online community - LowCarbEating.com - and interim-Chair of the Consumer Relations Committee of the CAC, Andrea Mondello recently weighed-in on the issue, "Despite the recent media coverage on confusing low-carb labels, there is NO confusion among educated and experienced low carb dieters about the effectiveness of low carb diets; they know both from personal experience and from reports on the recent results published by Duke University researchers. Low carb works."

She also added, "The danger I see is that consumers who haven't yet started to experience the benefits of a controlled-carb lifestlye will 'throw the baby out with the bath water' - they'll let negative comments about 'low carb' products in the media deter them from getting started. I urge people considering a low carb diet to look at the science and the results being obtained by thousands of others, and make an intelligent decision with their doctor as to what is best for them given their own health situation."

The low/controlled-carb products are just one sector within the larger food and beverage industry. Indicators show that popular low-carb, whole food selections continue to trend upward in consumption. According to the ACNeilsen Strategic Planner (food/drug/mass [excluding Wal-Mart] channels combined), significant increases, over the 52-week period ending 12/27/2003, were seen in the Eggs, Meat Snacks, Nuts, Bacon, Diet Carbonated Beverages, Frozen unprepared Meat/Seafood and Cheese categories. Decreased consumption was noted in the Potatoes, Instant Rice, Cookies, Cereal and White Bread categories.

These trends indicate a tremendous shift in eating habits amongst U.S. consumers - a shift supported by the IFIC Report "U.S. Consumer Attitudes Toward Food Biotechnology" that showed in January 2004, that 55% of those surveyed indicated they were avoiding or eating less sugars/carbs (n=485).

Another issue coming into play is the lack of a definition for label claims that a product is "low-carb". While the industry and consumers await the FDA proposed guidelines to be released for comment, there still exists no standard definition, which leaves label claims suspect in some consumers minds. Tiffany Anthony, founder of another consumer information portal online, CarbHeath.com, weighed in: "I think it's important to note that while the 'low-carb' claims are all well and good, how does a consumer know that what they're buying is truly low in carbs? This of course goes back to proper labeling and a process of certification verifying that a product is low-carb."

The Carbohydrate Awareness Council recently released information about such a certification process and seal. The "Carb-Approved Seal" is a certification mark, available to manufacturer's, ingredient suppliers and restaurants. This allows their products to be verified as being within the designated carbohydrate limits established in the testing protocol. Only those products that meet the strict qualifications are allowed to bear the seal. It is the only certification mark available at this time, and one consumers can trust because there is a testing process, approved by the US Patent and Trade Mark Office, to verify the claims.

"As the seal begins to show up on products and menus, consumers can be confident that the carbohydrate claim is accurate - even in the absence of FDA guidelines," said Ms. Schumann. "Consumers are very savvy today, very cautious about claims, and they want to succeed when they start a low-carb diet. They want to see something that ensures the label claim in accurate, that the product has met some level of testing standards, and that the product is an appropriate selection for the diet phase they are in. The Carb-Approved seal provides that level of comfort."

As low-carb dieting continues to gain in popularity, more and more products will come to market for the consumer to consider. Consumers are demanding accurate, useful product and educational information. Those manufacturer's that provide it will be the ones that succeed long-term.
